Bodmin Rotary Club gears up for Queen's Platinum Jubilee

What do you get when you pair a fantastic local group and fun events for all? A cracking good time for the community!

Bodmin Rotary Club is doing just that, and is busy organising, publicising and hosting a series of events throughout the year. The club has been active for more than 70 years, working with the community to help create a thriving, vibrant town for people to live and work in.

Recently, they have been focusing on commemorating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Kickstarting the jubilee celebrations on Thursday 2nd June, the club is working in partnership with Bodmin Town Council to deliver the Bodmin Fire Beacon tribute, as part of the National Fire Beacons Tribute. This will take place at 9.45pm, lit by the town's new Mayor Cllr Phil Cooper, and will continue Bodmin’s long-standing tradition of lighting the beacon for special occasions - Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee included.

On Friday 3rd June, the club is organising a ‘Music for All’ event in venues across the town, between 7pm and 11pm. This event is completely free and will allow fans of all kinds of musical genres to enjoy live music on their doorstep.

There will be some classical music at St Petroc’s Church; disco on Narisa Lawn, Priory Park; pop at Bodmin Town Football Club; country and western at the Shire House Suite; folk at Court No2, Shire Hall; and jazz and blues at the Masons Arms. The event is sponsored by Rotary, Bodmin Town Council, local businesses and Arts Council England.

Programme leaflets have been distributed across many of the town’s businesses, so make sure you pick one up to check all the details!

Bringing the club’s jubilee celebrations to a close, the Bodmin Rotary Club social car run will take place on Sunday, 5th June. British cars representing each year of the Queen’s reign, from 1952 to 2022, will travel 70 miles from Priory Park in Bodmin to Penzance, where a special welcome reception will be held.
