Holly Tomlin from St Breward is wanting to make a difference in North Cornwall with her new dance and fitness venture, following six years in the hospitality industry.
Holly, a self-confessed ‘make-happeneur’, established North Cornwall Dance and Fitness in November 2023, with the aim of creating a safe space for adults, of all diversities, to improve their mental and physical wellbeing through creative movement. Having worked for six years as a chef for the likes of Rick Stein and some smaller local restaurants, Holly has taken a bold step into the world she is truly passionate about: dance.
Keen to create an uplifting community that embraces the idea of improving the body, mind and experience, North Cornwall Dance and Fitness focuses on safety and rediscovery, with self-
expression and future functional independence at the heart of it. The classes are based across North Cornwall, including Mike Munds Gym in Bodmin, St Breward Village Hall, Wadebridge and Helland, but Holly also works in schools to ensure young people are able to access this movement-focused art form.
Holly has developed her boundaries and deep respect for life through her previous career as a chef, her childhood as a performer, her personal experiences with mental illness and her ongoing discovery of spirituality. Holly herself is an example of how creative exercise practices can rehabilitate a person's body and soul from trauma and bring you into a positive headspace and lifestyle.
Dance and creative movement have a number of scientifically proven benefits, from reducing stress and increasing happiness, to stimulating cognitive function helping to slow down symptoms of diseases like Parkinsons. It also improves coordination, balance, mobility and cardiovascular health, and, reduces the risk of osteoporosis. Dance can be a fun form of weight managements and the nature of group classes encourages participants to socialise and helps build confidence.
Holly said: “As the adage goes, the pathway to your mind is through the physical self, so if you're longing for a playful way to let loose from the rules of life, North Cornwall Dance and Fitness is waiting with open arms to welcome you. Boost your vitality, strength, self love, mobility, happiness, endurance and much more, alongside this beautiful new community."
