Did Lanivet Parish Church host a wonderful scarecrow festival? 'Oh, yes they did!'
The parish church in Lanivet has been holding an annual Harvest Scarecrow Festival for the last 12 years. Held in memory of Tim Shaw the late husband of Revd Alison Shaw. It starts each year on the last Sunday of September.
The weather, wasn’t always at its kindest, but it is amazing how well designed the scarecrows are and they all stood up to wind and rain with fantastic fortitude.
The competition and quality of entries was stronger than ever, with 16 entries under the theme of Pantomimes. The entries ranged from Cinderella to Jack and the Bean Stalk. Judged by the entrants themselves, by voting for their favourite entry, but not their own.
There is a printed Safari Trail available from the local shop and Post Office listing all the Scarecrow locations and many families and residents enjoy the walk around the village to admire and photograph them.
Congratulations goes to this year’s worthy winner, number 3. Peter Pan, entered by Linda Vercoe, Truro Road, Lanivet. She has been entering every year since we started and this is the first time she has won the Tim Shaw Cup for best entry, Well done Linda.
The week was finished off with a BBQ held in the Lanivet Inn, where the cup was presented and a big thank you must goes to Rob and all his staff the for running the BBQ for us. A good time was had by all.
We shall have a different theme next year, so keep an eye out the last week of September 2023.
Thank you Helen Watson for this lovely round-up of the event!
