You may remember in one of our previous issues of Bodmin Life in 2022, we wrote an article on the fundraiser to get a defibrillator installed at Porthpean beach.
Well, we’re delighted to say that this lovely little beach, which is around half an hour away from Bodmin and is one of our nearest beaches, has been able to achieve just that!
A life-saving defibrillator has been installed at the beach, thanks to the dedication and teamwork of a band of Cornish partners.
Regular sea swimmer Liza Crabtree, Cornish charity FLEET and Duchy Defibrillators worked together to make sure the defibrillator was in operation for the thousands of people who use Porthpean beach each year. Previously, the closest public access defibrillator was located at Porthpean village.
In 2021, Liza had concerns over the fact that there wasn’t a defibrillator at the beach, and she made it her mission to change this. Her hard work paid off, and the defibrillator was installed on the wall of Porthpean Sailing Club in January.
Congratulations to everyone that made this possible! It’s reassuring to know that the next time we use Porthpean beach, there will be a defibrillator accessible to those who may need it.
