Meet the Gruffalo at Cardinham Woods this October

Cardinham Woods will celebrate the recent arrival of six new Gruffalo sculptures to the forest with the Gruffalo himself on Sunday, 23rd October.

The Gruffalo sculptures are based on the characters from the best-selling picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. Mouse, Fox, Owl, Snake, Gruffalo’s Child, and the Gruffalo himself are waiting to be found along the family-friendly Lady Vale Walk at Cardinham Woods.

After you have found all the sculptures, head to the picnic meadow where the Gruffalo will be making appearances at regular intervals between 11am and 3.30pm. There will be crafts and activities in the meadow and free forest school activities and campfire storytelling at Badger Forest School. When you’re ready to recharge, head to Woods Cafe to sample their special menu of homemade cakes and healthy light bites. If you have any energy left, the popular Superworm Activity Trail will also be available, with activity packs available to purchase from the Ranger’s Hut for £3.50.

The 1.7-mile Lady Vale Walk is suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs, and the Tramper available to hire from the Rangers’ Office (pre-booking advised). The scenic adventure to discover the Gruffalo sculptures meanders along Cardinham Water to an ancient clapper bridge with abundant wildlife all around.

Katy Harrison, Cardinham Woods manager, said: “We are thrilled to welcome the iconic characters from The Gruffalo to our deep, dark wood and I’m certain they will be popular with visitors of all ages. We are always looking for new ways for families to have fun and connect with the forest around them, we’re especially excited to welcome the Gruffalo himself to Cardinham Woods – we can’t wait to meet him!”
